About the Role:
As a Senior Software Engineer here at Rocket Lab, you will work with the GNC and Software teams to develop browser based applications and integration infrastructure used by other engineers as part of the development of Rocket Lab’s Electron Launch Vehicle. These applications rely heavily on relational databases and REST API’s, both upstream and downstream, as part of a service oriented architecture. Develop Rocket Lab’s configuration management system that will create tools to manage vehicle configurations, and internal system definitions. You’ll be a subject matter expert across multiple areas of department and have demonstrated the ability to design complex systems or lead small technical team to solve significant engineering challenges.

In addition, key Software development responsibilities will include:
  • Developing software and unit testing according to bug-fix and feature requests
  • Developing documentation for operation of software products
  • Participating in review of source code merge requests
  • Approving merge requests for Software Assurance Levels B and below
  • Approving code review standards
  • Facilitating software architecture meetings
  • Documenting software architecture designs
  • Refining product backlog items
  • Facilitating scrum activities (e.g. stand-up, retrospectives, sprint planning)
  • Managing scrum activity information (e.g.velocity, retro minutes)
  • Keep tickets up-to-date regarding work in progress
  • Assigning weights to trade-study parameters
  • Facilitating stakeholder meetings
  • Delivering training on use of software products
  • Deploying operational software
What you’ll bring to Rocket Lab:
  • Tertiary Diploma, Certificate or degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience within a software engineering related discipline
  • Git
  • Experience with one of: Redmine, Jira, Bugzilla, Mantis, or other issue tracker
  • Typescript/Javascript
  • NodeJS
  • REST API’s
  • Linux as a development environment
  • Relational database design
  • HTML/CSS
  • Angular or other Frontend framework (React, Vue, etc)
Desirable Skills:
  • Scrum
  • Network programming (Sockets/WebSockets +1)
  • NPM related build systems and tooling
  • C#/.NET Development
