About the role
As a senior member of the Quality department, the Senior Quality Engineer – Special Projects supports Development and Production teams, ensuring quality is built into every aspect our product. They are responsible for managing and resolving all quality issues as they arise during development, production line commissioning, and mass production to ensure strict delivery targets. They are also charged with resolving the root cause of the issue to ensure it is not repeated.
This position will work closely and develop strong relationships with a variety of different Engineers, Technicians, and subject matter experts across a range of departments to enable the manufacture, testing and operations of all Rocket Lab products.
  
Essential skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, manufacturing, mechanical or material sciences engineering.
  • 8+ years in a quality, manufacturing, or design engineering role.
  • Knowledge of quality tools such as Lean principles, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Metrology, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plans, and various problem-solving approaches.
Desirable skills:
  • Experience supporting production of complex electro-mechanical, mechanical, or composites systems in high volume work centres and/or during production ramp-up.
  • Proven track record of year on year product and process improvement activities.
  • Has successfully introduced new product to the shop floor having been part of the design and process development process.
  • Conducted both processes and design FMEA’s which has resulted in substantial reduction of risk and design changes
  • Able to identify new technologies and develop to real shop floor solutions
  • Dedicated to adopting a Lean approach to quality without compromising safety or reliability
