About The Role

As a Responsible Software Engineer – Business Automation, you will work with the GNC and Software teams to develop browser based applications and integration infrastructure used by other engineers as part of the development of Rocket Lab’s Electron Launch Vehicle. These applications rely heavily on relational databases and REST API’s, both upstream and downstream, as part of a service oriented architecture. Develop Rocket Lab’s configuration management system that will create tools to manage vehicle configurations, and internal system definitions.

Requirements across Web Applications & Software development are:
  • Web Application Database Schema Design
  • Back-end Web Applications
  • Front-end Web Applications
  • Web Based User Interfaces
  • Machine-to-machine services
  • Develop software and unit tests according to bug-fix and feature requests
  • Develop documentation for operation of software products
  • Participate in review of source code merge requests
  • Approve merge requests for Software Assurance Levels C and below
  • Approve code review standards
  • Facilitate software architecture meetings
  • Document software architecture designs
  • Refine product backlog items
  • Facilitate scrum activities (e.g. stand-up, retrospectives, sprint planning)
  • Manage scrum activity information (e.g. velocity, retro minutes)
  • Keep tickets up-to-date regarding work in progress
  • Assign weights to trade-study parameters
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings
  • Deliver training on use of software products
  • Deploy operational software
What you’ll bring to Rocket Lab:
  • Tertiary Diploma, Certificate or degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience within a software engineering related discipline
  • Git
  • Experience with one of: Redmine, Jira, Bugzilla, Mantis, or other issue tracker
  • Typescript/Javascript
  • NodeJS
  • REST API’s
  • Linux as a development environment
  • Relational database design
  • HTML/CSS
  • Angular or other Frontend framework (React, Vue, etc)
Desirable Skills:
  • Scrum
  • Network programming (Sockets/WebSockets +1)
  • NPM related build systems and tooling
  • C#/.NET Development
