About the role
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced policy, compliance, or regulatory professional to enable Rocket Lab's development across launch and space operations. Work with US and NZ regulators to ensure Rocket Lab secures required permits and licenses for operations in both countries. Engage with the agencies in both countries on subjects as broad as launch and facility safety, environmental responsibilities, orbital debris mitigation, lunar exploration, and planetary protection. Your work will be essential to support the Rocket Lab's accelerating launches of the Electron rocket, Photon satellites, and missions to the Moon, Venus, and beyond. Help define the development of the new space industry and supporting regulatory environments. Bring your experience in policy, compliance, or other regulatory fields to a new industry. Your background in one of many varied similarly regulated industries, such as aviation, resources, communications, or others with a focus on public safety alongside technology will give you a foundation to draw from.

Your ability to rapidly develop expertise in novel subjects, and effectively advocate for Rocket Lab's position in each. You will lead a small team in a dynamic and collaborative workplace and ensure robust documentary evidence of compliance is maintained. You will bring excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to clearly and concisely present a compelling written case.

Essential skills:
  • 10 years in a similar role in a regulated industry, such as aviation or aerospace.
  • Good understanding of the needs of regulatory agencies, ideally with strong experience of direct interaction with regulators
  • Must have a track record working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to dialogue, negotiate, influence and work with other collaboratively and constructively.
  • Strategic Focus/Vision to translate vision and strategy into a clear, actionable goals.
  • Experience working in technology development in aerospace or rail industry.
  • Experience of creating or assessing documentation necessary to evidence safety and regulatory compliance
  • Experience of working closely with regulatory bodies in at least one geography or technical area
  • Ability to work independently, within a team, and with other groups.
