About The Role

This is a fantastic opening for an Electronics or Mechatronics engineer to join the Rocket Lab Team, working as a Mechatronics Engineer.  In this role, you will have the opportunity to take responsibility and ownership of the full cycle of test operations Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) systems for the Electron Launch Vehicle. We are looking for a graduate to intermediate level (2-3 years’ experience) candidate for this role, previous HITL experience is not essential for this position.
Key duties will include
  • Running of Rocket Lab’s HITL test rig to ensure the all hardware and software components are correctly configured
  • Assisting with design and implementation of configuration management systems (hardware and software) to enable configuration awareness and flexibility with minimal changeover time
  • Assisting with design and implementation of full-stack test programs to qualify new software and hardware revisions
  • Organizing the maintenance of HITL hardware
  • Assisting other Rocket Lab engineers in designing and implementing the full flight envelope HITL test program for the Electron Vehicle 
  • Designing and implementing test data post-processing algorithms/scripts
  • Participating in the development team for the 6DOF vehicle simulator which forms part of the HITL rig

Minimum requirements
  • Bachelor degree or higher in Electronic Engineering or Mechatronics or equivalent qualification
  • Exposure to designing and implementing test systems for electronics
  • An understanding of sensors, signal conditioning, and data acquisition electronics
  • An understanding of basic rigid body dynamics
  • Experience with a scripting language for automated testing (Python or MATLAB experience is essential)
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, creative and open to learning
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Proven communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
