The role of the Launch Technician - Electrical is key to enabling LC-1 in delivering launches at the highest rate of any launch site in the world.  You will be working with a tight-knit team of technicians and engineers to build, test and maintain critical launch systems.

We are looking for a technically driven individual who wants to be part of changing the way the world accesses space, this opportunity gives the successful individual the chance to make a true contribution to the work Rocket Lab is undertaking.

You will be working on launch critical hardware so it is vital that you have exceptional practical skills and are experienced using a wide variety of tools. You will be challenged on a daily basis and your tasks will be varied.  You will need to be able to think on your feet, evaluate changing priorities and be capable of problem solving in a relatively remote location.

Key responsibilities
  • Support launch campaigns in an electrical capacity
  • Carry out detailed pre-launch inspections and test procedures
  • Fault finding and rectification of launch pad systems
  • Install control wiring and instrumentation 
  • Install data systems wiring and equipment
  • Liaise with engineers to ensure projects are completed accurately and on time.
  • Design and install 230v/415v wiring systems and install equipment
  • Maintain accurate as built drawings in conjunction with engineering
  • Maintain Launch Range electrical facilities
  • Fabricate brackets and install cable support systems
  • Ensure site safety with regard to electrical regulations and standards
  • Maintain minimum stock levels and ensure required equipment is available onsite.
This position is based at Mahia peninsula and will involve working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Minimum Requirements
  • Previous experience in heavy commercial or industrial environment
  • Experience and strong understanding of Instrumentation and control systems
  • Current NZ electrical licence
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with Data systems and equipment
  • Computer literate and able to understand basic programming
  • Proven ability to read, understand and follow detailed schematics, drawings and instructions
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Capable of working under pressure and to strict deadlines
  • Team player with a willingness to do what needs to be done when it needs doing along with a willingness to step outside skill set to learn and/or assist when required
  • Confidence in skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to represent Rocket Lab within the local community and to build strong long-term relationships
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and capable of using your own initiative
Desired Skills 
  • Previous experience working at a rocket launch facility and supporting launch campaigns
  • Experience using Labview or comparable User Interface
  • Experience with maintenance and repair of generators and UPS Systems
  • Understanding of fluid systems - pneumatic, cryogenic and/or hydraulics preferred
  • Computer literate and able to understand basic programming
  • First Aid Qualifications
  • Heavy machinery endorsements
