About The Role

On May 25 2017, Electron made history as the first orbital-class launch vehicle to reach space from a private launch facility. It marked a significant milestone in eliminating commercial barriers and opening space for business. 
 
With future launches planned Rocket Lab is looking for individuals to join the team based at Launch Complex One in Mahia on a part-time basis to support the team during launch activities.

The Launch Range Safety crews will be responsible for monitoring the waters and airways around Launch Complex One to ensure the ongoing safety of the public during launch activities.

Safety Crew Key responsibilities
  • Monitoring of waters and airways around the launch site before launch for public safety
  • Representing Rocket Lab when dealing with members of the public or commercial boat operators in the area
  • Liaising with local authorities in the area, including Harbourmaster and possibly police, as and when required
  • Reporting sightings and public interactions to Range Control by radio and phone, and monitoring both for instructions
  • Assisting in post-launch activities as and when required
 
You will need to be able to work with minimal direction and have the ability to act on your own initiative and be able to remain calm under pressure.
 
For the Air crew you will need
  • Previous experience in aerial spotting work, such as search-and-rescue, stock mustering, fish finding, or similar for the air crew positions
  • The ability to crew on board a light aircraft at low altitude for long durations
 
For the Boat crew you will need
  • Excellent boating experience and knowledge
  • The ability to crew on board a light aircraft at low altitude for long durations
