About The Role

Second Shift 3pm to 11.30pm

Founded in June 2006 as a center for advanced space systems, Rocket Lab’s goal is to remove the commercial barriers to space. In support of this, Rocket Lab is developing the Electron orbital launch vehicle. Electron is a small launch vehicle capable of lifting a 150 kg payload to a 500 km sun-synchronous orbit. Rocket Lab is rapidly scaling in size to meet the high demand from customers.

About the role of Propulsion CNC Machining Technician 

As a Propulsion CNC Machining Technician for Rocket Lab you will be working on the Rutherford rocket engine. The engine is a regeneratively cooled pump fed rocket engine with LOx and kerosene propellants. It is the primary propulsion system of Electron and is manufactured using state of the art production techniques. 

All major components on the engine are printed and post machined. We need your expertise to run the machining centres for the post machining of these components. The machining operations are critical to successful operation of the engines. Experience and a good eye for detail is required to meet the necessary quality requirements. If you want to make parts that fly to space this is the role for you. 

Minimum Requirements for Propulsion CNC Machining Technician
  • 4+ years CNC machining experience (preferably on machining centers)
  • A very high attention to detail and meticulous
  • Self-initiative and enthusiastic in delivering high quality work efficiently
  • Talented on CNC as well as manual machinery and hand tools
  • Excellent time management and able to work overtime and long hours if needed
  • The ability to take a flexible approach and to adapt to change quickly 
Desired Requirements for Propulsion CNC Machining Technician
  • Experience with metal additive manufacturing
  • Experience with Inconel and titanium machining
  • Experience with Solidworks
  • Experience with GibbsCAM
