About The Role

About the role of Avionics Manufacturing Engineer
Rocket Lab has a newly created position, Avionics Manufacturing Engineer, available for an experienced Engineer to join their California based team currently working on the production of the Electron Launch Vehicle. 
As the first engineer in the avionics manufacturing team this is a unique opportunity to get in at the ground level and for the right individual, there is plenty of scope for future career growth.
Following initial training in New Zealand the successful applicant will be required to begin production of key avionics components in the USA and train additional Technicians to assist in production. You will be required to plan and support the build and manufacture of electronic systems including procurement support, assembly method, facilities / equipment planning and resolution of manufacturing, quality and reliability issues. You will also be required to estimate manufacturing costs, determine production cycle times, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with suppliers.
Minimum Requirements
• Must be able to demonstrate a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
• BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or the equivalent qualification
• Capable of functional testing electrical assemblies and developing relevant procedures and work instructions
• Capable of troubleshooting and addressing non-conforming hardware
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Knowledge of ERP systems, work instruction development, and BOM structures
• Proficiency with industry relevant CAD software
• Confident working under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Equally comfortable in a workshop and at desk
• Have a can-do attitude with the ability to organize a challenging schedule
Avionics Manufacturing Engineer - Skills & Experience Requirements:
• 5+ years relevant industry experience
• MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or the equivalent qualification
• Background in electronics manufacturing for aerospace applications
• Experience working in cleanroom environments
• Knowledge of MIL/IPC standards for electronic systems and assemblies
• Proficiency with SolidWorks
You must have the ability to work in New Zealand for an initial training period, this could be up to 3 months. Also, you will need to have the ability to make trips to the New Zealand facility for training and helping out as necessary. The role will otherwise be based in Los Angeles.
