About The Role

About Rocket Lab
At Rocket Lab, we believe the future will be defined and enabled by access to space.  As a world leader in launch and space systems, we’re making that future a reality and enabling the ideas of tomorrow to reach orbit today.  We’re unlocking the potential of space and ushering in a new era of opportunity and exploration for the benefit of humankind.

Your Mission
We have been selected by NASA to launch a pathfinding mission to lunar orbit in 2021.  This historic mission will lay the groundwork for the Lunar Gateway, paving the way for future missions to the moon and further exploration of our solar system.  This role is essential to the success of this mission and for future exploration opportunities.

Located in Auckland, New Zealand, we have a rare opportunity for an Avionics Manager to join our team. You are responsible for all aspects of the electronic systems on our Electron launch vehicle providing technical direction and leadership of the Avionics engineering function.  We have a high performing culture at Rocket Lab which means you will see your work in orbit within months!  You will have the opportunity to work with a team of like-minded people who are passionate about space and what we can discover.

Essential Skills:
  • Electronics, Aerospace, Mechatronics engineering degree or equivalent qualification
  • 8+ years relevant engineering experience
  • 5+ years proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Proven experience working to deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • Proven communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with a range of people of varying backgrounds and personalities
  • Hands on experience in electronic design and testing, at a component and higher-level system architecture
  • Comfortable swing between low level technical dialogue to high level big picture systems thinking and decision making

As well as a being a career-defining role, working at Rocket Lab means being part of meaningful projects with world-leading experts.

Collaboration is at our core - every idea is heard, and everyone makes a difference.

We get things done. Our team is nimble, decisions are made quickly, and we are action oriented. While other companies talk about it, we do it. This means projects get the green light faster and ideas are put into practice rapidly.

Everyone works on the big stuff. This isn’t a huge aerospace company where you get lost in bureaucracy and end up a tiny cog in a giant machine. At Rocket Lab, your work directly impacts the success of each mission. Everyone’s voice is heard, and everyone can contribute major projects. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in developing space systems that change the way we access space.
