About The Role

Rocket Lab is seeking a Wiring Harness Engineer to join a dynamic and fast-paced team within the avionics department.  You will be have the opportunity to develop the electro-mechanical design of the wire harnesses used in Rocket Lab’s Electron Launch vehicle, working with multiple stakeholders across the organisation to ensure all harness design objectives are met.

To succeed you will be an individual who can hit the ground running with innovative solutions to complex technical challenges and who can drive manufacturing of harnesses to the next level. 

Key responsibilities will include
  • Develop the electro-mechanical design of wire harnesses for the Electron launch vehicle
  • Meet with multi-disciplinary stakeholders to gather harness design objectives and requirements
  • Coordinate with Mission Management to create harnesses for unique spacecraft and deployers
  • Create and maintain vehicle-level schematics including grounding system layout
  • Perform analysis and trade studies to drive cost and manufacturability of harnesses
  • Perform R&D tasks to reduce mass of vehicle harnesses, including connector choices, backshell design, shielding optimisation, harness routing, and cable gauge sizes
  • Develop and improve internal processes for harness documentation and manufacturing processes
  • Interface with Production to resolve manufacturing and quality issues• Create and release harness designs for test support functions

Minimum Requirements
  • 3+ years’ experience in harness design for high-performance industries such as aerospace or automotive
  • Knowledge of electrical principles, including signal integrity, layout, and grounding
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation
  • Ability to work in fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere
  • Proven communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships

Desirable Skills
  • Good multi-disciplinary skills and ability to learn new fields quickly
  • Practical knowledge of electromagnetic interference (EMI) principles and mitigation techniques
