About The Role

Our battery team creates, tests, and supports the operation of high voltage battery packs used in the electron launch vehicle. We are seeking a skilled and resourceful Electrical Technician to support R&D operations, production upgrades, and launch vehicle operations. 

To succeed you will need to be an individual who can hit the ground running with the development and maintenance of equipment for production and launch operations. This work will require hands-on experience in building and maintaining electrical equipment, creating assembly drawings and wiring diagrams, electrical analysis and identification of wiring faults, and ensuring that any testing complies with internal quality processes and health & safety processes. 

Key responsibilities will include
  • Collaborate with R&D engineers in the development of new electrical products to release to production and operations teams
  • Provide technician support for building, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting custom and off-the-shelf electrical equipment, including battery charging and testing equipment
  • Install and program automation devices, and work with engineering teams to integrate electrical equipment into production facilities and workflows
  • Train production and operations teams in the safe use of electrical equipment, including high-voltage equipment
  • Follow all necessary regulations and appropriate Rocket Lab procedures including quality policies and health and safety policies
  • Conduct reliability and safety risk assessments for custom and off-the-shelf electrical equipment and processes
Minimum Requirements 
  • 3 years’ industry experience
  • Knowledge of low and high voltage AC & DC systems
  • Hands-on experience with electrical equipment, data acquisition, control, and automation systems
  • Ability to work in fast paced, autonomously driven environment
  • Proven communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships

Desirable Skills
  • Experience in ground-support equipment in aerospace, aviation, military, or other high-reliability operating environment
  • A current New Zealand practicing electrician’s license or working towards one
  • Experience in high voltage DC systems
  • Familiarity with battery systems and Lithium-Ion batteries is a plus
